What is Horseplay?
Horseplay is an underground homo disco for queer guys and girls and their friendly friends, tucked away in a sweaty basement in central Bristol. Horseplay rode into town in April 2011 as an alternative to Bristol’s mainstream gay scene, bringing you the best of Brooklyn danceparty and East End dive bar. The Cavern Club is our disco stable, it’s a dirty underground club beneath a metal bar, with cheap beer and a houseparty vibe. We play a frisky mix of alternative dance music; disco, nudisco and indiedance pumped through time and space directly into your ears in full stereo sound. If it makes the dancefloor throb, we’ll play it.

Who plays what?
Horseplay is sound-tracked by resident Jockeys PonyM, Jim Carna and Bronco. PonyM was a resident DJ at Bristol’s alternative stablemate Wonky before launching Horseplay. Bronco and Jim Carna have played at Wonky (Basement 45), Duchess (Start The Bus) and Dirtytalk (Timbuk2). The Horseplay Jockeys all share a love of alternative dance music; the soundtrack at Horseplay is inspired by the New York disco and early house scene and the alternative gay scene in London, Berlin, Paris and Brooklyn. We occasionally book special guest DJs and keep our ear to the ground for those who share our musical ethos. We have previously booked london’s David Oh! (Love Machine, Popstarz, Another Night, Dirtbox, The Men Who Fell To Earth) and Nottingham’s electro disco sensation Ronika to spin at the stables.

Will I be welcome?
Horseplay attracts all sorts of people… we are a mixed club where stallions and fillies of all persuasions can get sweaty together. We don’t care who you are or what you are wearing, as long as you’re up for sleazy, sexy disco. Sound good? Then we’d love to meet you. Pull on your riding gear… polish your hooves, comb out your mane and dance until you’re ready for the knackers yard….
